In the pursuit of global climate action, the ICT sector stands as both a critical enabler and a significant contributor to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. By attending the session, you will gain valuable insights into the transformative journey of the ICT sector, showcasing collaborative efforts that align growth with global climate goals. The panel discussion will focus on "Green Digital Action @COP28" under the thematic pillar of "ICT Sector GHG Emissions" and will assess progress in the lead-up to COP28, scheduled in November-December 2023 in Dubai. The session will provide an overview about the progress of establishing a robust and collaborative network of organizations dedicated to embracing or over-achieving the emissions reduction trajectories laid out by the ITU. To this end, the proposed calls for action include setting science-based emissions reduction targets, encompassing Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, while surpassing the designated trajectories for the sector. A strong emphasis will be placed on reporting comprehensive data across all emissions scopes and categories, with particular focus on enhancing the Scope 3 emissions reporting. The establishment of an ICT sector emissions database will serve as a crucial repository for sector-wide information and insights. An important aspect of this initiative involves the purchasing and utilization of decarbonized and renewable energy sources, with an ambitious goal of reaching 80% reliance on such sources by 2030. This panel discussion will showcase the transformative shift in the ICT sector through collaborative efforts, aligning its growth with global climate imperatives to be addressed in COP28. It will provide an overview about the possibilities to join the initiative and submit pledges. By forging ahead with actionable strategies, transparent reporting, and shared learning, the session will discuss the potential of sustainable digital innovation that serves both the ICT sector and the planet.
